These five items were among my favorite things to use in the month of July. Most of these products are great for hot, humid weather and that makes them especially loved in this month. I went to South Carolina and Georgia on vacation and needed products that not only protected my skin, but also stayed put in those conditions.
Since sunscreen is so important it is no surprise that a sunscreen would be a favorite in July. I have spent months looking for a really good sunscreen that doesn’t leave my skin looking shiny and white. My dermatologist recommended EltaMD UV Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46. Oil-free EltaMD UV Clear helps calm and protect sensitive skin types prone to breakouts, rosacea and discoloration. It contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), hyaluronic acid and lactic acid, ingredients that promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin. Very lightweight and silky, it may be worn with makeup or alone. Choose from tinted and untinted formulas for use every day. As you can see it is a gel-like product with a warmish tint. It goes on a bit shiny but dries down to a satin finish. My makeup goes on well over it and does not look patchy.I used this sunscreen while on vacation and after spending a day in Charleston and Savannah, my face stayed protected from the sun. It is pricey. I paid $39 for a 1.7 ounce bottle. It will last a while though since 1/8 teaspoon is the amount of sunscreen you should use on your face.
Another makeup item that is important in hot and humid weather is a good foundation. I discovered CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation. I had heard a lot of good things about this foundation on You Tube. It is an inexpensive drugstore formula that will run you around $10. All-in-one foundation with a long-lasting formula that fuses primer, concealer, and foundation in one easy step! The 3-in-1 formula provides a flawless look that lasts all day long. This foundation goes on so smoothly with a medium to full coverage. I use a damp sponge to apply and it looks great. It holds up really well in heat and humidity. At the end of the day it looks almost as good as it did when I put it on. This is how it looks on me. I am in the shade Buff Beige.
I am using another favorite, Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in the shade 003 Natural. Up to 5 hours natural shine control with natural minerals. Helps minimize the appearance of pores. Dermatologically tested. I absolutely love this powder! One of the many things I love about it is that it is less than $5! This is a translucent powder that makes my pores look less noticeable. That is amazing all on its own. But wait, there’s more. This powder really does help me stay matte all day long. That is no mean feat. At 52, I still shine like a beacon in hot humid weather. My skin is dry enough in the winter now that I don’t need it but in the summer it is a must for me. There is no reason to spend crazy cash on any other mattifying powder when this little gem will do it for such a reasonable price. If you want to keep your face matte this is your powder.
My go to lipstick has been Avon Beyond Color Lipstick in the shade Uptown Pink. It is a really pretty neutral pink that is perfect for spring and summer.
This is how the lipstick looks on my lips. It is a nice bright pink that works with lots of different looks.Plump and pamper your lips with Beyond Color Lipstick. Jojoba oil and pomegranate extract moisture your lips, while caffeine makes them appear fuller! Choose from great shades in a satin finish that are sure to make your lips look full and beautiful. Get your dream pout with Beyond Color Lipstick. As you can see it has a satin finish and feels good on the lips. It is moisturizing and as a huge bonus is SPF 15. This is extra beneficial in the summer when you are spending more time in the sun. This opaque lipstick has decent staying power and looks good for a long time. This lipstick is a multitasker contains retinol and has a plumping effect on the lips. I can’t say that I see a huge difference in plumpness but this is a good little summer lipstick
Finally, I have loved Konjac sponges this month. This a recent find and something else I learned about on You Tube. The black one is totally dry and the white one is damp from the shower this morning. These sponges are made from the root of the Konjac plant. When you get them wet they expand and get softer. You squirt your cleanser directly on the wet sponge. It gently exfoliates your face without being harsh and damaging. You can buy these at Target and Wal-Mart or order online at Amazon. I got a package of 3 from Amazon for around $7.
Check out my post on the makeup I used when I spent the day in Charleston, SC. It was in the high 90’s that day and so very humid. It features the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and Avon Beyond Color Lipstick.
