Birchbox- September 2016

I must admit that I am not really thrilled with my Birchbox this month.Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that is $10 per month. Each month you receive 4-5 samples or deluxe samples. Occasionally you get a full sized product. To get an idea of what you can expect to get in these boxes read my posts here and  here. If you are interested in subscribing you can use my link https://www.birchbox.com/invite/vhl8r. I do get a credit if you subscribe using my link. This month  I just got the box based on my profile. Some months I get the featured box but I wasn’t interested in it this month.

This month  I just got the box based on my profile. Some months I get the featured box but I wasn’t interested in it this month. There is also an option to choose a specific sample from several choices and the rest of the box is based on your profile. I have never tried this option. Let’s look at what came in my September box.

LOC Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil – These high-shine lip pencil  from Birchbox brand LOC are packed with hydrating ingredients that keep lips super-smooth. The paraben- and cruelty-free formula provides moisture, nourishment, and color that lasts all day. The pointed tip ensures precise application every time, and each product is the perfect compact size to help you stay on-trend wherever, whenever.  I am always happy to get lip products in my boxes because I get to try colors and formulas that I might not try on my own. Plus, it allows me to try it at a bargain price rather than paying full price for something that doesn’t work for me. This is a bright reddish shade that may or may not work on me.

R+Co TWISTER Curl Primer – Curly hair can turn on us in the blink of an eye. We’re stopping midday frizz and general unruliness by setting the stage with a nourishing primer that preps our hair for hydrated, defined spirals. Aloe leaf extract moisturizes and soothes while Brazilian Pequi fruit oil seals each cuticle to reduce frizz. Quinoa proteins and shea butter work together to deeply heal and soften dry hair, laying a foundation that lets our favorite gels and styling creams shine. I have curl in my hair and it can get frizzy so this is a product that may get some use. I don’t use much product in my hair but I am game to try new products.

Milk Makeup Highlighter – Celebrities and musicians have professional lighting and teams of makeup artists to give them an all-over glow 24/7. Lucky for us, we have something way more portable. Sweep on this flattering head-to-toe highlighter wherever you need subtle, dewy sheen. Hydrating ingredients like mango butter, peach nectar, and avocado oils will quench skin all day long. Bonus: Milk Melt Technology means the product melts on contact for easy application, no brushes required.  I love a good highlighter but I haven’t completely mastered the application of cream or liquid highlighters. I will try this and continue to practice using cream highlighters.

Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate – You’ve aced Skincare 101: You drink plenty of water, log eight hours of sleep a night, and diligently apply (and reapply) SPF. But to get your advanced degree, you’ll want to invest in a targeted antiaging serum like this one from Kiehl’s. Loaded with vitamin C and other potent ingredients, it smooths, brightens, and tones skin. This is the one item in my box this month that I am really looking forward to trying. My current Vitamin C serum is almost past its shelf life so this comes at a great time. Vitamin C is one of the best anti-aging ingredients you can use and I use it every morning. It brightens and firms the skins, lightens dark spots, and helps sunscreen be more effective.

Avène Thermal Spring Water – Dermatologists and beauty editors agree: this hydrating, rebalancing mist—sourced from the medicinal springs in Avène, France—is both refreshing and incredibly powerful. Backed by over 300 clinical studies (not to mention centuries of dermatological treatment), this multitasker soothes redness and calms all sorts of skin troubles—from sunburns to allergic reactions to eczema and itching sensations. Use it as a morning toner, spritz it as a mid-day refresher, or keep it in your purse for moments when skin is stressed. Bonus: It also works to set makeup.  This seems like a pretty useless product. It is just water and I don’t see how it will add much to my skincare and makeup routine. I will give it a try but it is not something that I would buy.

This is not one of my better Birchboxes. I am usually very happy with what I get so I guess I have to expect to have an off month now and again. I will be surprised if any of these products show up in Best of the Boxes for September but you never know. I am happy about the lip product and the Kiehl’s Concentrate so maybe they will make the cut. See you next month!

  1. I must say I do like the Avene Thermal Spray – I’ve used it every day for a couple of years now and my skin really likes it. It’s great for me as it doesn’t make my sensitive skin worse (like other facial sprays do) and it gives it a bit of relief, which is marvellous. 🙂 🙂
