Restarting Tretinoin – 2nd month

I began my second month still using tretinoin every third night. I was having flaking almost daily when I applied makeup. My neck was having flaking but my chest was not. I used my AHA masks occasionally on nights I didn’t apply tretinoin. I also was using Paula’s Choice BHA lotion on the nights I didn’t apply and Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 every morning. My skin was not showing signs of drying out.

The flaking continued to be an almost daily issue on my face. My neck and chest adjusted well and there has never been flaking on my chest. I have only noticed it once on my neck and that was in the first month. My skin is not dry at all and I only notice the flaking when I am applying my makeup in the morning. Some mornings it is light and some morning my entire face is a flaky mess. I have to get all the flakes off before putting on foundation or it would look a hot mess.

I am considering making adjustments to try and get past all this flaking. If it is still doing this in the winter when my skin gets dryer it will look terrible. I can either go to every 4th night instead of every 3rd night or drop from the .05% strength to .025%. I am reluctant to use it less often as the goal is to use it every night. I think I will likely go to a lower strength and try to get to daily use. Then I will start over again with the .05% when my skin adjusts to the .025%. I will continue with the .05% on my neck and chest since they are tolerating it so well.
