Month of Masks – Fall

I love masks! I like all kinds – clay masks, sheet masks, sleep masks. I use a mask 3 times per week and like to have a variety on hand. In the summer I use different masks than I do in cooler weather. This month of masks will be in November so I will be mostly using gentler, hydrating masks. As I start the month, it is unseasonably warm here in Virginia with possible record-breaking temperatures tomorrow. My goal is to use a different mask each day and to vary the types of masks I use.

WEEK 1

I started my Month of Masks with a sample sized tube of Glamglow SuperMud Clearing Treatment that I got from Ipsy with my points. It promises Super Clear Super Poreless Skin. It contains kaolin clay, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Glycolic Acid. It left my skin feeling soft and smooth. It had a minty smell and did not sting or burn. There were little black flakes in it that you can see on my face and on the washcloth above.  I think my face may have actually looked better after using this.

On the 3rd I used Malie Seaweed Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask – The product provides enough moisture and nutrition to skin exposed  to stimulatiom from outside, and its active component forms protective coat and helps moisture not evaporate to moisturize your skin. The moisturizer and softener make  your skin healthy, energetic and clean with enough moisture and nutrition.  This is a sheet mask and is a k-beauty product. It was a nice thick mask that fit my face well. It was saturated with serum and had a light, fresh scent. There was enough essence in the packet for my neck and chest too. My face felt very hydrated after using this one.

My choice for the 3rd night of my first week was Freeman Black Sugar and Charcoal Polishing Mask – Polution…debris…it’s a wonder skin can breathe! This unique mask and scrub works double time to detox skin. First, naturally purifying Activated Charcoal helps absorb oil and impurities without over-drying. The Black Sugar helps exfoliate away dulling skin cells for softness and clarity. Perfect for all skin types.  This is a good mask but it is messy. The pieces of it fall off your face as you put it on. It doesn’t really adhere to your face well and it doesn’t dry at all. You leave it on for 5-7 minutes and then massage it like a scrub before rinsing. It also is messy when you rinse it off. Big chunks fall off in the sink and stick to your washcloth. But I still like the mask. It is not drying at all and leaves my skin smooth and soft. It feels warming on the face and it has an almost oily feel. I don’t know how else to describe it but not oily in a bad way.

Week 2

I started my 2nd week with e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask – This hydrating and nourishing gel transforms into a bubble mask on the face. Watch as bubbles fizz and foam to remove excess dirt and cleanse pores for glowing, healthy looking skin. I received a bubble mask in one if my beauty boxes a while back and I really enjoyed it. I purchased this as part of an  e.l.f. Haul and this was my first time trying it. It is a gel that starts to bubble right after application. It bubbles for about 10 minutes and then the foam kind of dries a bit.If you are ticklish you may want to avoid this as it feels really weird on the face. It is a fun mask and my face may have felt a bit more hydrated. What I don’t like about this mask is the packaging. You press down on the top and it comes out through a small hole. It makes it hard to get a good amount out at one time so it started bubbling in on some parts of my face before I could get it on other parts. It is an ok mask and it will stay in my rotation.

Then on to a staple in my mask rotation Freeman Banana-Oat Instant Smoothing Mask. Whip up a little skin nourishment with our sensational facial smoothie! Deliciously-fragrant Banana-Oat blend smacks of softening ingredients for gorgeous skin. Highly active Alpha Hydroxy Acids rapidly exfoliate dull skin cells and reveal a softer, smoother, more radiant complexion. Antioxidant-rich Bananas nourish freshly exfoliated skin with minerals and antioxidants to keep bumpy skin issues away. Soothing Oat works double-time to nourish and keep skin calm, cool and collected. Perfect for all skin types. This makes my face feel so soft the next day. It burns and leaves your face red immediately following use but it works. You have to apply moisturizer as soon as you rinse it off. I am careful to use products that have mild ingredients. I try to use this mask once a week because it works that well for me. It is a yellow gel that has a very chemical fruit smell.

7th Heaven Argan Oil Mud Mask – Embrace the natural joy of Moroccan Argan Oil coupled with antioxidant-rich Acai Berries. This power duo join forces in this face mask to deeply cleanse pores, balance oil levels and bring tired skin back to life. This is your typical mud mask. It has a light, fresh smell. It was not overly drying but it is not ideal for my skin in the fall and winter months. This packet had enough left over that I can get 2 uses out of it.

WEEK 3

When 10:00 PM Sheet Mask – We’re in love. This all natural gel mask is vegan and formulated with hydrolyzed collagen, Vitamin C, antioxidants, and amino acids to restore skin that looks tired and worn out. We woke up the next morning with glowing baby soft skin and knew we had to share it with al of you. It’s perfect for all skin types.  I received this mask in Beauty Beyond Borders October 2016 bag. It is a very nice mask. It is a gel-like texture that really clings to the face. It is saturated with serum that has a very light, fresh scent. This serum is more easily absorbed than any other sheet mask I have used.

This will be the only mask I use twice this month –  7th Heaven Argan Oil Mud Mask. As I mentioned above this packet had enough to use it twice. I wanted to go ahead and finish it before it dried out and had to be thrown away. I have some more of these but I’m going to keep them until summer when my skin is less dry.

I finished the week with Sally’s Box Secret Garden Ampoule Masks. Feeling parched? Time for a double shot—of hydrating essence. These masks come with an extra serum to use before you mask. Olive Oil Mask nourishes skin and helps diminish the look of fine lines. Camellia Oil Mask gives you a radiant glow. Microfibers in the mask deliver serum to your skin faster and penetrate deeper. This seemed a good choice on what was the coldest night of the season so far. It was windy, cold, and bone dry. This is a 2 step sheet mask. There is a separate serum that you apply before you put on the sheet mask. It was a rich, creamy serum that felt good on my face. The sheet mask itself was drenched in serum. It was a pulpy kind of material that was soft and fit my face well. After taking on the sheet mask the serum absorbed easily into my skin and left it feeling so soft and hydrated. I really enjoyed this mask.

WEEK 4

I know I said that I would only reuse a mask once this month but I was wrong. I used the Banana-Oat Instant Smoothing Mask again this week.  It is one of the most effective masks that I have. I do try to make sure that I use it weekly because of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids in it.

While shopping in Walmart I saw a packet of Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Facial Mask.  A healing facial mask for dry, chapped skin, SheaMoisture’s Raw Shea Butter Facial Mask gently clarifies skin while intensely hydrating and promoting moisture rebalancing. Made with a unique blend of organic Raw Shea Butter and mineral-rich clays with Frankincense and Myrrh extracts, it boosts skin’s rejuvenation and imparts radiance to dry or aging skin. Made with 100% certified organic raw Shea Butter, this face mask heals, hydrates and moisturizes dry skin. The high Vitamin A content of raw Shea butter helps fight a plethora of skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema, wrinkles and blemishes, while also being effective against skin allergies. The added Frankincense and Myrrh extracts further help prevent signs of aging and soothe cracked, chapped and dry skin. Now give your face a brilliant glow with this facial mask that has an easy-to-apply creamy formula. Be rest assured; SheaMoisture’s Raw Shea Butter Facial Mask will give your skin the little boost it needs to look soft, supple and youthfully refreshed day after day!  This looked like the perfect cold weather mask and the small packet made it perfect to try without having to buy an entire jar. This mask has a mousse like texture and an earthy scent. It dried down without leaving my face feeling tight or dry. I really liked this mask and was able to get 2 uses out of the packet. I may purchase a full size of this one.

I finished out this week with Global Beauty Care Spa Treatment Mask Rose. This is a powerful facial treatment designed to improve the health and appearance of your skin. Rose oil is extracted from the petals of roses. The oil is an anti-inflammatory agent and tissue regenerator loaded with therapeutic benefits for the skin. I am currently obsessed with anything rose for skin care. So, when I saw a 5 pack of these sheets masks at TJ Maxx I had to have them. The fact that they were only $1.99 was an added bonus. The mask itself was a bit thin but fit my face well. It had an adequate amount of serum but it didn’t really smell much like roses. I think this may have caused my face to break out so I won’t be using this one again.
Finally on the last Monday in the month I used Balance Me Radiance Face Mask. Enough things in life are dull already.  Your skin doesn’t have to be one of them. This lightweight mask can boost the luminosity of lackluster skin in just five minutes. Suitable for all skin types, the clay-based formula cleanses, exfoliates, and brightens skin, leaving your complexion softer and more radiant.  I received this sample in my July Birchbox. I liked this mask but it may be better for my spring and summer skin.

As you can see, I love masks! I use them in all varieties and to address so many skin issues. In the colder weather, I prefer sheet masks. In this month of masks, my favorites were When 10:00 PM Sheet Mask, Freeman Banana-Oat Instant Smoothing Mask, and Sally’s Box Secret Garden Ampoule Mask. The only mask that I did not like was Global Beauty Care Spa Treatment Mask Rose.
Do you use masks?Have you tried any of the ones I used this month? Do you have any suggestions of masks that I should try?

  1. Wow! This post is genius! I love that you use all these different masks to target several skin issues. I think this is probably the best way to take care of skin. At the moment I’m using my glycolic overnight peel two – three times a week, I also do a peel-off mask, a mud mask, and I use my vitamin e mask as a night cream once a week. And I really want to try sheet masks too.
