2016 Favorites

Looking back over the year I have identified products in several categories that were my absolute favorites. These were products that I used regularly or were go to products for various situations.

Facial Cleanser – Purity Made Simple by Philosophy. This was my nighttime cleanser and I used it almost every night all year. I got a 12 oz bottle for $15 during a Christmas sale in 2015. This stuff is stupid expensive with an 8 oz bottle selling for $24 on the Philosophy website. It is a really good cleanser though. It cleans well without stripping the skin. It is gentle enough to use on my eyes. It is part of my P.M. Skincare Routine.

Toner – Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Hydrating Toner. This has Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E to hydrate the skin. It gets off any last bit of cleanser on my face.It is not drying at all. It makes my face feel good. Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Hydrating Toner Review has more information.

Sunscreen – eltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46. I got this at my dermatologist’s office and it is wonderful. It works so well with my makeup and skincare products. It doesn’t make my face look white or shiny.

Matte Foundation – Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup. This is the best makeup ever if your skin gets oily and shiny in the summer. I start using this foundation in May or June and use it into September. It keeps my face looking matte all day long.

Foundation – Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup is my favorite foundation when my skin is more normal than combo. It goes on so light but provides great coverage. I like the liquid version too but the whipped is good for dryer, colder months.

Undereye Concealer – Maybelline Instant Rewind Concealer is the best. It is light but covers well. It is not drying and isn’t too bad at settling in fine lines.

Left to right: Blushing Blush Powder Blush in Iced Lotus, Cheek Pop in Heather Pop, and Soft-Pressed Powder Blush in Fig

Blush – I have Clinique blushes in several formulas and love them all. I have the Soft-Pressed Powder Blush in the shade Fig. This is a brownish red shade that looks good on my skin tone. It is a sheer blush and you have to build it up to get a nice color. I have the Cheek Pop in Heather Pop. This is a mauvish shade that is good for a neutral look. Finally, I have Blushing Blush Powder Blush in Iced Lotus. The shade is described as a blue, blue pink with white shimmer. I would never have imagined that I would love a shade like this so much. I tried it out before buying it and just fell in love with it. Clinique blushes are not highly pigmented but can be built into a lovely natural glow.

Mascara – Maybelline Supersizer Mascara. I love this mascara. It has a plastic bristle brush that adds volume and length. It is buildable and you can create long, lush lashes. It doesn’t flake or smudge and lasts all day. And the best part is that it is drugstore price.

Eyeliner – Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner. This is the best liquid eyeliner ever. The tip is thin and precise and lays down the perfect line along my upper lashes. It doesn’t smudge or budge all day long. It is waterproof and you have to work to get it off at all. It is simply amazing.

Eyeshadow Primer – Wet ‘n’ Wild Fergie Take on the Day Eyeshadow Primer. This stuff works! My eyeshadow stays put all day long. It is as intense when I remove it as it was when I applied it. I have used the Urban Decay Primer potion and this is every bit as good. Plus it is about 1/5 the price at $2.99 a tube. It is wonderful and something I always repurchase.

Setting Powder – Coty Airspun Loose PowderI use this in the shade Naturally Neutral and it is a great setting powder. It is very fine and does not cling to my skin or make my face look all dry and powdery. It sets my makeup and helps keep any shine away. It is a drugstore product with a drugstore price but works like a high-end product.

Body Lotion (Oil) – Avon Skin So Soft Gelled Body Oil. This is a product that I use every single day. I keep a supply on hand just to be certain I never run out. This is the most awesome product ever. It keeps my skin satiny smooth but that is just part of this miracle oil. It keeps my feet as soft and smooth as baby feet. All year round. Even in the winter when feet usually get dry and crusty and disgusting this stuff keeps the perfect. If you haven’t tried this you really, really should.

Hand Cream – Avon Skin So Soft Replenishing Hand Cream.  This is my holy grail hand cream. I am something of a hand cream junkie and this is, quite simply, the best. It leaves my hands feeling amazing! It dries to a powder-like finish and is not excessively greasy. I try to catch it on sale at Avon for less than $2 for a 3.4 fl. oz. tube. Try it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I didn’t list favorites for lips or eye colors because I use so many different products. I don’t think I could even begin to pick just 1 favorite. I like different formulas, colors, and brands. The same with masks. I use so many and I like them all.

The products I did list are my absolute favorites in these categories. I use most of them daily. The ones I don’t are used regularly. They are all products that work like I expect them to – day in and out.

What are your favorite products? Any that are on my list?
