Birchbox January 2017

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription that is $10 per month. You receive 4-5 samples or deluxe samples each month. You get makeup, skincare, hair care, bath and body, perfume, or beauty tools. Birchbox has 3 choices each month. You can choose a specially curated box and you know exactly what is in it. The 2nd choice is to choose 1 of your samples from 3-5 choices. The final choice is to let them create the box based on your profile. I have chosen each option at one time or another. This month I chose to get products based on my profile. You can see what I typically get in my boxes  here,  here,  here, and here. This month looks to be a pretty decent box.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk – Klorane’’s dry shampoo is such a star, we’re convinced it deserves its own spot on the Hollywood Beauty Walk of Fame. The longtime choice of celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow and Diane Kruger, it’s been praised for its versatility as a grease buster, volumizer, and waterless cleanser (no wonder it snagged Allure’’s Best of Beauty Award). Made with softening oat milk extracts, plus corn and rice starches, this ultrafine powder spray leaves nary a trace of residue behind. It performs a heroic array of functions: It soaks up oil and sweat from your roots and helps revive second day hair, amps up volume and helps extend the life of blowouts, and can be used as a texturing aide when you’’re trying to perfect a tricky updo. I use dry shampoo and I enjoy getting to try new brands. I also like these small sizes to use when I travel.

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner – This London-based brand’’s liquid liner lets you create mod looks in a flash. Rather than frustrating us with a hard-to-control brush tip, it features a pen-style applicator that’’s completely goof proof, allowing you to control the thickness of the line you create and vary the intensity of your look. Plus, the fadeproof formula will hold up all day and night. Beauty editors adore it too: This liner is a Teen Vogue Beauty Awards winner. I have an unopened tube of this that I received in another subscription box/bag. I hope I like it since I have 2 now. I do prefer a pen tip applicator so it has that going for it.

amika Bombshell Blowout Spray – As the saying goes, a jack of all trades is typically a master of none. Not so for amika™’’s Bombshell Blowout spray. The lightweight spray works on both damp and dry hair to give you the perfect blowout, protecting, nourishing, smoothing, and volumizing hair. We apply it to damp strands before blow-drying to provide heat protection, texture, and lift. It also serves as a light hold mist for dry hair and can facilitate restyling. I don’t do much to my hair so I am never excited to get haircare products. I will try this at some point but it is just meh for me.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment – Sunday Riley never lets us down in the multitasking department. Case in point: this high potency, purified-grade lactic acid treatment that exfoliates dead skin cells, plumps fine lines, evens out hyperpigmentation, and boosts your skin’s glow factor—all in one pump. The smooth, non-oily finish makes skin look radiant with or without foundation—ensuring people compliment your good genes instead of your makeup. I am happy to try this and see what it does. I cannot imagine ever buying it no matter how well it works. It costs $105.00 per ounce. Yes, you read that right. It costs over $100 an ounce. I can’t afford to spend that so this will be my first and only trial of this product.

Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic To-Go – The word “tonic” makes us think of magic potions—and these multitasking treatment pads soaked with Glow Tonic don’t disappoint. Featuring 20% glycolic acid (a chemical exfoliator), they tone, firm, and tighten skin while also removing dead skin cells. Alcohol-free and gentle enough for all skin types, the soothing formula uses aloe, ginseng, and other botanicals to make dullness disappear—all in a single swipe. This is a much better priced AHA product. If it is good I may buy more of it.

I am mostly pleased with this box. I am really excited to try the Sunday Riley skincare and the Glow Tonic. I will definitely use the dry shampoo and will use the eyeliner if it is good. The blowout spray is the only thing I have no immediate plans to even try.

  1. Some beauty lovers really underestimate the importance of a tonic. They are. Not all the same….some misting, some to use with a cotton pad. But its use is essential.

      1. I can’t be impartial… I love the Ingenium Naturals Sensi – Net Tonic….full disclosure though, I co-founded the company :). It’s a misting tonic which I use as a mist, but it’s versatile and can also be used to remove light make up when sprayed on a cotton pad. I use it after the cleanser. You’ll find the ingredients on a tab on the page. The formulation is extremely gentle.

Live well! Live healthy! Enjoy the journey!

  2. I can’t be impartial …..

    I love the ingenium naturals Sensi-Net tonic mist…..I co-founded Ingenium Nturals…so like I said….

I mist it onto my face after I use the cleanser, and sprayed on a cotton pad it will efficiently remove light make-up. It’s extremely gentle…I adore it and formulated it to my liking of course :)….I think you might like it a lot…
