I get a lot of beauty boxes/bags and they often have masks in them. I love masks and my subscription services give me the opportunity to try a lot of different masks. I thought I would use just masks I received in a beauty box/bag this month. I mask 3 times a week and use all kinds of different masks. I did Month of Masks for the first time in the fall. I like to share my experiences with masks because I try so many.
Week 1
Masque Bar by Look Beauty Hydrating Peel Off Mask – Gently peels away impurities and dead skin cells while cucumber extract leaves your skin moisturized, smooth and silky. Skin Concern: basic care, dryness, dark spots and skin tone. This is a clear gel mask that is super sticky. It has a strong scent that smells a bit like cucumber but it is a very harsh, alcohol smell. I’m not sure why a hydrating mask would have any alcohol in it. It peels off easily and doesn’t dry so tight that it hurts coming off. My face did not seem especially hydrated after using this mask and my cheeks looked a little red. This came from the Target Beauty Box February 2017. I should be able to get 3 uses out of the packet because you only need a very thin layer. This mask is nothing special and I would not purchase this.
Wei Beauty Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask – This mask is the #1 globally top-selling mud mask from Wei Beauty that has an ultra-soft texture without a tight or uncomfortable feeling as it dries. This purifying mask deeply cleanses and removes dead cells bringing skin to natural balance for a refreshed, clear complexion. The golden root extract works to counteract the oxidative causes of cell damage while pure china clay works to absorb toxins, dirt and remove dead skin cells. I got this mask in Beauty Beyond Borders January 2017 bag. It has a nice, light scent. It is a pudding-like texture dark brown mask. It goes on the skin a lighter shade but dries to a deep brown. It did not feel drying at all on my skin. After rinsing my face looked brighter and smoother. It stung a little when I first applied it but that did not last long. I will get at least 2 more uses out of the sample, maybe 3 or 4. This is a mask I might purchase.
Privai Aqua Gel Masque – Chamomile Flower, Azulene and healing Green Tea combine to soothe and calm any skin type in this as ultra hydrating gel masque. Perfect for after a day in the sun or an active peel where the skin is parched and in desperate need of hydration and skin renewal. Apply a thin layer to cover entire face. Gently rub masque into the skin to help absorb. Can be used as a wash off masque after 10-15 minutes or leave on and allow to dry for supple, dewy skin. This came in my Ipsy Bag December 2016. I waited until tonight to try it because it has been a mild winter and my skin has not been dry this year. Tonight is blustery and cold with snow flurries. It seemed like a good night for a moisturizing mask. This is a very light aqua colored gel.It has a slight scent and goes on very light. I chose to use it as a leave on mask but it can be rinsed off after 10 – 15 minutes. It immediately absorbed into my skin with no greasy feel. To be honest, it didn’t feel terribly moisturizing going on but my skin felt very soft after it absorbed into my skin. That was very impressive. This is a good mask for my skin in the colder months. It would probably be too much for my skin in the summer.
I do use my face products on my neck and chest except for masks. I use a lot of sheet masks and obviously, they don’t work on the neck and chest. I decided that I would use the Freeman Honeydew & Chamomile Sleeping Mask on my neck and chest on mask nights. To wake up with dewy skin, you have to hydrate while you sleep! Our overnight sleeping mask with antioxidant-rich Honeydew and calming Chamomile is just the thing for rejuvenating skin. Deep moisturizing Coconut Oil makes rough skin a thing of the past, and Dimethicone dramatically smooths. Conditioning Jojoba Oil and moisture-binding Silk Amino Acids deeply nourish. Rinse upon waking to reveal well-rested skin that’s ready to face the day! Perfect for dry skin. That way my neck and chest will get some TLC too. This mask is a light, white lotion that isn’t greasy at all. It is quickly absorbed and leaves a pleasant, light scent. This is the only product that does not come from a subscription service but it is the only sleeping mask that I have.
Week 2
Global Beauty Care Dead Sea Wash Off Mask – Global Beauty Care Dead Sea Wash Off Mask is formulated with a unique blend of salts & minerals from the Dead Sea in Israel. This gentle mud treatment draws out dirt and impurities from your skin and peels away dead skin cells. Helps to restore elasticity and fortify the skin with essential moisturizers Stimulates and beautifies your skin and body. Deep cleansing formula is good for all skin types. This mask came in the Ipsy Bag October 2016. It is a very smooth, gray-black mask that spreads easily on the skin. It doesn’t sting or burn and doesn’t dry tight. It rinses off with no problems and left my face feeling soft and smooth.
It’s Skin Todak Todak Pack Pore Care Wash Off Mask with Apple and Egg White – Clay pack contains egg whites effective in removing oils and controlling sebum, and apples that tighten pores and make skin smooth. This came in a Beauty Beyond Borders bag a few months ago. It is a pretty green color and smells of apples. It is a mousse-like clay mask that glides on smoothly. There was no stinging or burning and it was not tight feeling after it dried. My skin was smooth but I didn’t see any noticeable improvement in my pores.
Glamglow SuperMud Clearing Treatment that I got from Ipsy with my points. It promises Super Clear Super Poreless Skin. It contains kaolin clay, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Glycolic Acid. It left my skin feeling soft and smooth. It had a minty smell and did not sting or burn. There were little black flakes in it that you can see on my face and on the washcloth above. I think my face may have actually looked better after using this.
Week 3
7 Wonders Amazonian Acai Anti-Pollution Mask – The Açai berry, from the Amazonian rainforest in Brazil, is an antioxidant powerhouse that will purify and neutralize the effects of pollution on the skin. Vitamin C, B, and E help protect, fortify and rejuvenate skin.Treats: Skin damages, Irritation, Skin pollutants. Effectiveness: Minimizes the effects of pollution on skin, Purifies & detoxifies skin, Neutralizes skin-damaging free radicals. This was a coconut gel mask and it was amazing! It was between peel off covers to keep it saturated. And it was. It was dripping with essence. The scent was very light and fresh. I let it on for almost an hour and when I took it off my skin felt so soft and smooth. Most of the essence had absorbed into my skin and the rest was massaged in easily. My skin looked brighter. I got this mask in Beauty Beyond Borders August 2016. I think I will buy more of this mask. bought a sample pack of all the masks in this line and a box of the Olive Oil Brightening Masks as well. Iiked it that much.
For my 2nd mask this week I used the It’s Skin Todak Todak Pack Pore Care Wash Off Mask with Apple and Egg White again. It is in a little pod and I’m afraid that it will dry out before I can use it again. I should have at least one more use left in the pod, maybe even 2. I love the scent of this mask!
Balance Me Radiance Face Mask – This lightweight mask can boost the luminosity of lackluster skin in just five minutes. Suitable for all skin types, the clay-based formula cleanses, exfoliates, and brightens skin, leaving your complexion softer and more radiant. This came in my Birchbox July 2016. It is an exfoliating mask with fine exfoliators. It smells fresh but not overpowering. It doesn’t really dry it just gets firmer. It is just a mask. Nothing great, nothing awful.
Week 4
Sally’s Box Secret Garden Olive Oil Ampoule Mask – 2-step ampoule mask with olive oil and garden complex to deeply hydrate skin and keep it moisturized and firm. (Moisturizing + soothing + lifting). This came in the Ipsy bag – August 2016 and I got a Camellia Ampoule Mask too. You apply the serum and then put the mask over it. The serum is a thin white creamy serum that absorbs easily. The sheet mask is saturated with serum. It mells so freash and clean. This is a great mask.
Glamglow Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment – While water and oil may not mix, this innovative mask proves that mud and oil make (as unexpected as it sounds) quite the cleansing power couple. This unique formula starts out as mud then, when water is added, transforms into oil to deliver a thorough but oh-so-gentle deep clean. A powerhouse blend of four clays, including ultrarare Brazilian white clay, offers detoxifying benefits, while a mix of prickly pear, pine, frankincense, and myrrh oils help whisk away dirt and makeup while also leaving your complexion velvety soft. This has a fruity scent that is not heavy. It is a thinner consistency than most clay masks. It is a gray-green color. It stung my face when I first applied but was fine after a minute or two. It didn’t seem like an oil to me but it did make a nice lather. My face looked a bit dry afterward but did not feel dry. It felt really soft later. I didn’t see anything about it to justify the stupid expensive price tag. I got this sample tube in Birchbox October 2016.
I finished up this month of masks with pur~lisse Blue Lotus Seed 5-in-1 mud mask + exfoliant – As a rule, mud masks can be well, messy, but this one makes you feel more like you’re at the spa than running a tough mudder. It also does about 10 million amazing things for your complexion (we’re talking brighten, detoxify, tighten, and soothe, all while gently exfoliating), thanks to a power combo of ingredients including blue lotus seeds, bamboo, white clay, ginger, and mushroom. This mask came in the Ipsy Bag January 2017. It is a mud mask with fine exfoliating beads in it. When I first apply it does burn a bit but that stops fairly quickly. Once you let it dry you add water to exfoliate your face. It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. I enjoy this mask.
As you can see I love all types of masks. I use clay masks, sheet masks, gel masks, exfoliating masks. They all have a spot in my routine. I can address any number of skin concerns by using different types of masks. I also find that masks are relaxing. It is my favorite part of my skincare routine.
I will say that the 7 Wonders Amazonian Acai Anti-Pollution Mask is definitely my favorite of the month of masks. It is one of my favorite masks ever. I purchased a sample set that had all the masks in that line and I am looking forward to trying them all. Look for a review on them in the future.
Have you tried any of the masks I used this month? Do you like them? Do you have any suggestions of masks that I should try?
