Birchbox May 2017

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription that is $10 per month. You receive 4-5 samples or deluxe samples each month. You get makeup, skincare, haircare, bath and body, perfume, or beauty tools. Birchbox has 3 choices each month. You can choose a specially curated box and you know exactly what is in it. The 2nd choice is to choose 1 of your samples from 3-5 choices. The final choice is to let them create the box based on your profile. I have chosen each option at one time or another. This month I chose sample choice. You can see what I typically get in my boxes here,  here,  here here, and here

Birchbox has been less than great for the past few months. I have actually thought about canceling my subscription. This month is decent so I’ll hang in a few more months. Read on to see what came in my box.

R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo – This dry shampoo will do more than clean up your hair; it’ll lend it a kind of untamed texture—not unlike the landscape from which it takes its name. Just a few sprays will absorb excess oil, increase volume, and add definition. I am always happy to get dry shampoo samples. Not only do I get to try different brands but they are great for travel.

The Beauty Crop Fabulous Flocking Lashes – If we were stranded on a desert island and could only bring a handful of products, we’d take this tropical-inspired mascara with us. It’s enriched with argan oil to lengthen, thicken, and nourish eyelashes from within. Not to mention it’s also budge-proof—a.k.a. totally resistant to water (so we won’t have to worry about runny mascara after taking a dip in the ocean). I don’t typically use waterproof mascara because I don’t need it and it is so hard to get off at night. However, this will go on vacation with me. I do use waterproof mascara at the beach so it won’t run and smear in the heat and humidity.

Vita Liberata Fabulous Self-Tanning Gradual Lotion – The problem: achieving a beachy bronze look without scorching our sensitive skin. The solution: this gradual self-tanning lotion, which develops a lasting sun-kissed look in mere hours. The unique formula is tint-free and scent-free thanks to Odour Remove™ technology, making it suitable for skin that’s irritated easily by fragrance. In addition to creating a gorgeous natural glow, it hydrates, nourishes, and conditions your skin with certified organic ingredients, including shea butter and extracts from melon, ginkgo biloba leaf, and lychee. Believe it or not, this miracle worker is also free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. I have never been able to apply self-tanners without leaving a streaky mess. I’ll try this but expectations are low.

COOLA® Mineral SPF 30 Daydream™ Makeup Primer – We’re sticklers about wearing sunscreen every day, but makeup and sunscreen don’t always play nice. Fortunately, this primer-sunscreen combo is changing the game with a silky-smooth formula that minimizes pores, reduces redness, and sets the stage for flawless makeup—all while protecting us from the sun. Iris stem cells regulate skin’s natural moisture balance and boost elasticity while antioxidant-rich honeysuckle stem cells fight free radical damage. White lily soothes skin and improves texture so our foundation glides on and stays put (until we decide to take it off). Turns out makeup and SPF can be BFFs after all. I like Coola and am always on the search for a great sunscreen. I look forward to trying this.

Living proof.® Perfect hair Day™ (PhD) In-Shower Styler – Air-drying doesn’t mean you have to go product-free. Enhance your strands with this convenient in-shower styling cream that adds texture and definition with magnetic texturizers and cationic resins while also making hair easier to manage without looking or feeling like you put any product in it. Formulated with a hydrophobic resin to control flyaways and the brand’s patented thickening molecule, PBAE, for fullness, it gives your locks effortless movement and body that everyone will think is natural. This was a sample choice item that I specifically picked for my box. I don’t blow dry so this is perfect for me. It gave my hair so much extra volume! This is good stuff. I may need to buy a full size.

I am really happy with the Living Proof product. Of course, it is so expensive that part of me wishes I didn’t like it too much. Nothing in this box was a disappointment. I will at least try everything and know I will use the Coola primer and dry shampoo. I would give this box a 4.5/5.
