May ended up being a pretty good month for my subscription boxes. That made me happy considering that last month was a bit of a disappointment. All my boxes had at least 1 item make the Best of for May. I’ll start with Ipsy Bag May 2017 since it came first.
Mellow Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lipstick in Nude – Hot tip: Not all mattes are created equal. That’s why we’re flipping for this one! It’s SO creamy and moisturizing, you won’t believe it’s matte. Dry lips? As if. Thanks to a healthy infusion of Vitamin E, this stuff makes our pouts insanely silky, satiny, and smooth. Understated is the new bold. These gorg nude shades are perf for owning a “no makeup makeup” moment (if you’re into that sorta thing). This is a gorgeous shade with a wonderful formula. It is nice to wear a creamy matte lipstick after so many dry liquid lipsticks.
I may like some of my other Ipsy bag products. The lipstick is all I have tried so far. Target Beauty Box May 2017 had a great lip product that is definitely a best! It had other samples that I’m probably going to love but there just hasn’t been time to try them yet.
Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Lipstick in Nice to Fuschia- High-pigment color glides on glossy and dries to a matte finish that won’t dry out your pout. Trick: Use a lip liner beforehand to define the shape and keep the color contained. I already have this in other shades and like the formula. I would not have picked this shade on my own but I really like it. It is a very bright shade but it works.
Finally, the Boxycharm May 2017 was great this month. It has been disappointing the past couple of months. These 3 products have been game changers for me and I am using them almost daily.
Highlight & Contour Palette by IBY Beauty – Sculpt, define, and illuminate your features with the Highlight and Contour Palette. Chic and portable, this PRO-approved kit comes in 6versatile shades. This is a full sized palette and it retails for $40. Some subscribers got a cream palette and some got a powder palette. I am glad that I received the powder version because I don’t do the best job with cream contours. I am liking this a lot!
Brow Brush by The BrowGal – This double-ended brow brush was designed to allow for precision and creating hair-like strokes while filling in the brows. This sells for $14 and it is my first time using a brush like this for my brows. I like it a lot. The spoolie is better than what comes on eyebrow pencils. It is much firmer.
Convertible Brow – 02 by The BrowGal – The convertible Brow is a powder/pomade duo that acts as a powder when used dry and a pomade when used wet t fill in and apply color and definition to the brows. Each compact has a warm, neutral, and ash tone to allow you to mix your perfect, custom color. If used wet, the palette will revert back to a powder consistency, ensuring the product does not dry out. This full-sized palette sells for $35. I had never tried using powder to do my brows. I have been using a pencil and I have used the mascara-like eyebrow products. I wasn’t planning on liking this but after using it once I am loving it. This along with the Brow Brush is awesome! So glad I got to try this.
Birchbox May 2017 was actually decent this month and I am including 2 of the products in this post.
COOLA® Mineral SPF 30 Daydream™ Makeup Primer – We’re sticklers about wearing sunscreen every day, but makeup and sunscreen don’t always play nice. Fortunately, this primer-sunscreen combo is changing the game with a silky-smooth formula that minimizes pores, reduces redness, and sets the stage for flawless makeup—all while protecting us from the sun. Iris stem cells regulate skin’s natural moisture balance and boost elasticity while antioxidant-rich honeysuckle stem cells fight free radical damage. White lily soothes skin and improves texture so our foundation glides on and stays put (until we decide to take it off). Turns out makeup and SPF can be BFFs after all. I like Coola and am always on the search for a great sunscreen. I look forward to trying this.
Living proof.® Perfect hair Day™ (PhD) In-Shower Styler – Air-drying doesn’t mean you have to go product-free. Enhance your strands with this convenient in-shower styling cream that adds texture and definition with magnetic texturizers and cationic resins while also making hair easier to manage without looking or feeling like you put any product in it. Formulated with a hydrophobic resin to control flyaways and the brand’s patented thickening molecule, PBAE, for fullness, it gives your locks effortless movement and body that everyone will think is natural. This was a sample choice item that I specifically picked for my box. I don’t blow dry so this works for me. I liked it so much that I ordered a full size from Birchbox.
As you can see May was a good month for my boxes. The Brow Gal powder and brush are easily my favorites. They may be my favorites for the entire year. Which just gave me an idea for an annual Best of the Boxes post. Yah!
What were your favorite subscription box samples this month? Did you get any of the products from this post? Did you love them like I did?

May was a great month so it’s probably too much to hope that June will be that good.
