I received a sample of Derma-E Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask in the Birchbox April 2017. I was happy to get it because I love trying different masks. Now that it is getting warmer I can use charcoal and clay masks more. In the winter I tend to use hydrating masks. For reference, my skin is normal with a tendency to shine in warm weather. I also use tretinoin / Retin A so I have to watch what I put on my skin.
Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask deeply detoxifies skin of harmful micropollutants in two ways: (1) Natural clays infused with Kimarine® Wakame, Bladerwrack and Activated Charcoal lift out dirt, oil and bacteria to decongest pores as the mask dries; (2) Apricot Seed Powder exfoliates away dead skin cells and captured debris upon removal. Kaolin and Bentonite Clays absorb excess oils and impurities, relieving skin congestion. Kimarine® Wakame is a potassium-rich, magnesium-rich seaweed that is clinically proven to protect skin against environmental pollutants (exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, heavy metals). Bladderwrack is an antioxidant-rich, mineral-rich seaweed known for its water-binding properties, supporting healthy skin hydration and nourishment. Activated Charcoal, known for absorbing 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities, purges pores of deeply rooted toxins, then Apricot Seed Powder gently exfoliates away micropollutants. Ideal for oily, active or urban skin types, even safe for reactive skin (minimal ingredients and allergy-tested), used this formula once or twice a week for skin that looks dramatically fresher, healthier and purely glowing.
Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Kaolin, Bentonite, Glycerin, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Seed Powder, Fucus Vesiculosus (Bladderwrack) Extract, Undaria Pinnatifida (Wakame, Kimarine®) Extract, Charcoal Powder, Epilobium Angustifolium (Canadian Willowherb™) Extract, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract* (.1%), Menthyl Lactate, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.
How to use: Apply generously to clean facial skin, avoiding eye and lip area. Leave on for 5 minutes or until mask is completely dry. Moisten fingertips, then massage mask gently in a circular motion to activate exfoliants. Concentrate on areas of congestion such as nose, chin and forehead. Rinse thoroughly, or remove with a damp cloth. Pat dry. Use 1-2 times a week.
The mask had a light, fresh scent that was not loud and did not linger. It was a nice texture with fine exfoliators. It spread evenly and smoothly over my face. It did tingle for the first few minutes but once that stopped it was fine. It tightened as it dried but wasn’t uncomfortable.
It was a light gray color when applied but dried to a pale blue. I added water and massaged it in circular motions. It had very fine exfoliators that felt gentle to my skin. This mask rinsed off easily and did not leave any residue on my skin.
My face felt so smooth and soft! It looked better as well. I had a nice glow and my pores may have looked a bit smaller. I am very impressed with this mask. I found it here for just $15.67 for a 1.7 oz. tube.
I recommend this mask for anyone with normal, combo, or oily skin. I’m not sure how it would work with dry or sensitive skin. I did not find it drying at all. My face did not feel tight. As I said it felt incredibly soft and smooth after using the Derma-E Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask.
