I took advantage of a recent ColourPop no shipping sale to try out the lip products. I have heard good things about the lip products and this was a good chance to try them out. I got 4 lippies in the Ultra Matte, Ultra Satin, and lippie stix formulas.
The Ultra Matte Lip formula is described as The boldest formula of our liquid lipsticks – in one smooth swipe, you’ll get intense color payoff that dries down to a super matte, transfer-proof finish.
Ultra Matte Lip in Solow is a medium consistency. It goes on nicely and quickly dries down to a matte finish. It looks a bit dry on my lips but it lasts forever. I had a hot dog and fries for lunch and it did not budge. It is described as a Flamingo Pink but it is a coral pink. I would expect a Flamingo Pink to be much brighter. This is not the best shade for me.
This formula is just ok for me. It looks dry on my lips but it doesn’t feel as dry as it looks. My lips did not feel especially dry after wearing it all day. The color is opaque and this stuff has staying power. When you apply it you can be sure it will look just applied for hours.
I also purchased an Ultra Matte Lip in Bumble.
I really like this shade. ColourPop describes it as a warm rose but I see some berry in it. In any case, this is a good shade for me. I’m not sure that this shade lasts as long as the Solow does. It is just as thin a consistency and dries down just the same. Solow and Bumble are both bestsellers and I see why.
I find the ColorPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks to be as good as any that I have tried. Any matte liquid lipstick is going to feel and look a bit dry. These are as good as any I have tried and they are only $6.
I wanted to try a few different formulas so I got a Lippie Stix in Cami. Get one swipe pigmentation in a full-coverage, ultra matte finish in a comfortable formula loaded with skin-loving ingredients like shea butter and Vitamin E. This is matte and is $6. The shade is described as cool-toned mauve. It looks more like a rose shade on me.
While I do like the Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks I LOVE the Lippie Stix! It looks and feels better on the lips. It is not as long lasting as the Ultra Matte but I wouldn’t expect it to be. It wears away nicely so it isn’t a big deal. I will be getting more of these!
It goes on smooth and creamy but dries down quickly. It does not feel as dry as the Ultra Matte formula and it doesn’t look dry at all on my lips. This is just a very good lipstick. It is a great shade, it looks good, and it stays on pretty well.
The other formula I purchased was the Ultra Satin Lip in Frick N’ Frack. High pigmentation and a satin-matte finish in liquid lipstick form to keep your lips soft and comfy all day long. This is the shade that looks most like the swatch on ColourPop’s website. It is a deep shade that really works better for fall and winter.
It goes on thin and dries to a tacky finish that is a satin matte look. It holds up remarkably well to stay so comfortable on the lips. It stayed put through a bacon biscuit breakfast. I am impressed.
Although the Ultra Matte formula is the most transfer proof I really prefer the Ultra Satin and Lippie Stix formulas. They all provide opaque colors but the Ultra Matte just looks too dry on my lips. The Ultra Satin and Lippie Stix look and feel awesome!
These are amazing lip products especially for just $6 each. They have intense, opaque color and stay on well. I recommend all the formulas and feel you won’t be disappointed with any of the formulas. You do need to be careful about shades though. They are not accurate on the website at all. Frick N’ Frack was the truest to color. I googled swatches and used them to pick my colors. I am satisfied with all the shades I picked except for Solow. It is not a great shade for me.

Frick n frack was the first shade I bought and I absolutely love it still almost a year later! With the CP’s matte liquid and lippie sticks, I had to play around with ways to fix that dry look. If you put the absolutely thinnest layer of chapstick or vaseline on, then run CP’s lip primer over it, it helps minimize how dry the matte liquid and lippies look on the lips. 😀

Thanks for the tips on using the matte formula/ I have tried using a balm under really dry liquid lipsticks but then they seem to stay kind of gummy feeling and never seem to dry down. How do you deal with that?

I think it depends on which balm you are using and how much you apply of each product. I always blot after balm but I also let it sit on my lips for a few minutes first to let some of it sink in. Sometimes I’ll apply the balm after face primer, do my face and eyes, and then blot and do lip products.
