Best of the Boxes August 2017

I am a beauty box subscription junkie. I get Ipsy, Allure, Boxycharm, and Birchbox each month. I get both versions of the Walmart beauty box quarterly. I also buy Target beauty boxes if they have samples I want to try.

Each month I like to write a post to highlight what I considered the best samples I received that month. Some are products that I have tried and others are products that I am excited to try. Read on to see what I loved in my August boxes.

I was very happy with Ipsy this month and a few samples were good enough to be included this post.

Yadah Silky Fit Concealer BB Power Brightening in Light Beige – This sheer-to-medium coverage fluid evens out your complexion (so it’s like your skin, but better!) with a super natural-looking, semi-matte finish. You can skip layering on anti-aging creams and SPF: both are thoughtfully included in the formulation. Initially, I was not happy to get this. BB Creams don’t have enough coverage for me. I will use them on vacation when coverage would just melt off anyway. I tried this under foundation and realized that I like it. It makes my complexion a bit more even and provides an extra layer of sunscreen. I use it like I would a primer and think it works much better.

Vitamasques Yoghurt Mask Duo – The Strawberry Yoghurt Mask has  (you guessed it) strawberry and yoghurt extract to smooth and illuminate.  The Kiwi Yoghurt Mask works to soften and revitalize thanks to (mhm) kiwi and yoghurt extracts. I haven’t had a chance to try these yet but masks are my very favorite samples to get. I am looking forward to trying them soon.

Pacifica Coconut Blush Duo –  This duo from Pacifica offers two uber flattering shades: Beaming, a muted terracotta and Tenderheart, a soft mauve. Wear them separately or layer them to create a custom hue. Coconut is an actual ingredient, which means built-in, glow-getting, and anti-aging properties. The shades are totally buildable. Try a quick swipe for a subtle hint of color or pack it on for a bold, draping effect. I have so, so many blushes that I was not thrilled to see one in my Ipsy bag. I gave this a try and actually really like it. Tenderheart is a beautiful shade. I have been using this blush several days a week since I got it.

Allure came next and I was happy with it. It contained mostly skin care and that is my favorite kind of box! I haven’t had a chance to try anything from that box but these are the ones that I am excited to get to try.

Caudalie Instant Detox Mask – The Instant Detox Mask purifies stressed city dwelling skin.  It’s 99.3% natural clay formula draws out impurities and toxins. Skin texture is left refined, pores are tightened, the complexion is even.  Lightly fragranced with soothing botanicals combining lavender, parsley & chamomile. Caudalie is a respected skin care brand that I have never tried. Masks are my favorites and I get to try a high-end brand.

Hey Honey I Peel Good! Biomimetic Peel Cream – An innovative biomimetic* honey peel cream treatment. The all-natural, rich, deep-cleansing formula purifies and resurfaces your skin to reveal a smooth, radiant texture. The innovative process provides moisture retention and enhanced elasticity without AHA’s. I have used other products by the brand Hey Honey and I am a fan. I have always wanted to try one of these peel creams. I cannot wait to try it! I am currently using an AHA pad from Avon but this will be next on the list to use.

Vichy Minéral 89 Skin Fortifying Daily Booster – Just like the body needs vitamins to be healthy, skin needs minerals to strengthen its moisture barrier. Introducing a new generation moisturizer, combining 89% Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water rich in 15 minerals and Hyaluronic Acid. Boosts your skin’s resistance to elements like pollution, stress, and fatigue.  Boosts your skin’s level of hyaluronic acid • Boosts your skin’s moisture and strength.  Provides 24-hour hydration Lightweight moisturizer, absorbs quickly into skin leaving it feeling comfortable, softer, and hydrated. PURE & CLEAN FORMULA • 100% Paraben-free. Non-greasy. Non-sticky. Non-shiny. Oil-free. Fragrance-free. Silicone free. Colorant free. Alcohol-free. Allergy tested. Tested on sensitive skin. Tested under dermatological control for safety. For all skin types. Clinical study on 52 women aged from 26 to 62, using Mineral 89 twice a day over a 4-week period: • 81% agreed skin immediately felt healthier In 28 days: • 94% agreed skin seemed more luminous • 83% agreed skin seemed re-plumped • 75% agreed skin seemed more toned. I am always on the look out for a good serum. This makes some pretty incredible promises and I hope it can deliver.

The box I was most waiting to get this month was my Boxycharm August 2017I had seen spoilers and could hardly wait to get my hands on the eye palette.

Rainforest Of The Sea: Volume II by Tarte – Crease-free eyeshadow palette with the best-selling creamy powder formula in eight, cool-toned shades. I have several Tarte blushes and I like them. This is my first Tarte eyeshadows. The packaging is gorgeous and the shades are cool neutrals. I have used this and am liking it a lot.

MODA™ Pro 3-Piece Brush Set by Royal & Langnickel – This MODA™ Pro 3-piece brush set, features a pointed blush, chisel blender and a crease brush. These brushes will achieve endless looks and can be used with both wet and dry products.  These brushes are wonderful. They are soft and fluffy with sturdy rubberized handles. I have used all 3 and they are very good brushes. They look to become some of my go-to brushes.

There were shipping issues with Birchbox August 2017 this month so it was late getting here. It was a pretty good box once it finally arrived.

Curl Keeper by Curly Hair Solutions Original Curl Keeper –  Transform wild curls into soft, well-defined ones with this unique styling lotion. The water-based formula controls frizz without weighing hair down or leaving behind a sticky residue. Best of all, it reactivates when you dampen strands to smooth down unruly locks—ideal for styling between washes. I am usually disappointed to get hair products. My hair is wash and wear so I don’t use much on it. This sounds like something perfect for my hair, though. I have curly hair prone to frizz.

Acure Organics Day Cream – Consider this face cream the skincare equivalent of a superhero suit. It offers serious protection against environmental damage and free radicals, thanks to an infusion of chlorella growth factor and gotu kola stem cells. Not only does it naturally firm skin and even out tone, but also it locks in moisture for all-day nourishment. Ideal for normal to dry skin. I have tried this before when I got a sample of it in a Target Beauty Box. I know that I like this and that it works for my skin.

GLAMGLOW® THIRSTYMUD™ Hydrating Treatment – When our throat is feeling parched, we go for a tall glass of water (or our fave refreshing smoothie). And when our complexion is especially thirsty, we treat it to this powerfully hydrating mask. Packed with nourishing, energizing actives, including hyaluronic acid, raw honey, and ginger root, it provides immediate, deep hydration and seals in moisture to enhance skin’s radiance and suppleness. The result? A healthy, glowing, and altogether rejuvenated complexion. This is one of the best samples of the month. I like Glmaglow products but they are way out of my price range. This way I get to at least try it.

All in all, it was a good month for my subscriptions. I got masks in multiple boxes and that makes me happy! The eye shadow palette was gorgeous and I have skin care and hair care products to try.

What beauty subscriptions do you get? What is your favorite? What good samples did you get this month?

  1. We don’t have those boxes in Australia but I get Bellabox each month (they have more drugstore based products) and Maslow and co. Quarterly (they do products from all over the world, some well known and others not). Sometimes I’m happy with the boxes but I have found an abundance of unused sample sized products I’ll never use building up.
