September has been an odd month in Virginia. It has been rainy and chilly most of the month due to all the hurricane activity. It has felt very fall-like. It has been a tough month on my skin. I am increasing my tretinoin strength from .05% to .1% and this month I went to 5 nights a week at the new strength. Most of my favorites this month are related to this change. Read on to see what I loved in September.
Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 – We’re always skeptical when products promise the sun and the moon, but Dr. Jart+’s Premium Beauty Balm truly delivers. A four-in-one primer, moisturizer, sunscreen, and treatment serum, the formula helps you cut down on the grooming clutter. This tinted balm uses adenosine to improve skin’s elasticity and arbutin to brighten and even out skin tone. An antioxidant bio-peptide complex provides anti-aging properties and promotes collagen production, while titanium dioxide and zinc oxide add broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. This came in my Birchbox June 2017 and I included it in Beauty and Skin Care Products for the Beach. This is a wonderful BB cream and I have been using it every weekend this month. It provides medium coverage and leaves a lovely glow. I usually dislike products that leave a glowy finish because for years I battled oily shine and love a matte look. This BB cream makes my skin look amazing. A full-size tube is around $38 and I will probably buy one at some point. It is hands down the best BB cream I have ever used.
St. Ives Collagen Elastin Moisturizer – See ya later scale-agator. Nourish your skin with the goodness of 100% natural moisturizers (Safflower seed oil). Infused with hard-working collagen and elastin this hydrating formula will help capture that fresh-faced glow we all love. This product is the most surprising addition to my monthly favorites. My neck and chest were not reacting well to tretinoin even though I was using a lower strength than on my face. It was red, irritated, and dry. I needed to do something so I picked up this cheap tub of moisturizer. And I do mean cheap. You can get a huge tub for less than $5 at Target, Walmart, CVS, or Walgreen. It has worked wonders with my neck and chest! The skin there is so soft and smooth now! I think I have found my perfect neck and chest moisturizer! It has saved my skin. All that for less than $5.
Acure Organics Day Cream – Consider this face cream the skincare equivalent of a superhero suit. It offers serious protection against environmental damage and free radicals, thanks to an infusion of chlorella growth factor and gotu kola stem cells. Not only does it naturally firm skin and even out tone, but also it locks in moisture for all-day nourishment. Ideal for normal to dry skin. I received a sample of this in Target Beauty Box November 2015 Review and again in Birchbox August 2017. I used the first sample last winter and loved it so I was happy to get another sample in the Birchbox. I thought I would wait until winter again but increasing the strength of tretinoin is causing major dry patches around my mouth, nose, and chin. My Holy Grail Clinique DDMG just wasn’t cutting it. I was afraid this would be too heavy for my skin in warm weather but it hasn’t been. It is helping with the dryness and is not leaving my skin looking a greasy, hot mess by midday. This is quickly becoming a Holy Grail daytime moisturizer for me. I have already purchased a full size. Birchbox gave subscribers points to use in their shop during their recent birthday celebration and I was able to get it for $9. You can pick it up at Target for $16.99 which is a phenomenal price. I am totally loving this stuff! It also has a wonderful orange scent that helps wake me up in the morning.
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser – Removes dirt, oil and makeup as ceramides and hyaluronic acid moisturize, soften, and help repair the skin barrier. It has controlled release for 24-hour hydration. Hyaluronic acid helps retain skin’s natural moisture. All CeraVe products contain the vital ceramides healthy skin needs to help restore and maintain its natural protective barrier. This is most definitely a Holy Grail cleanser for me. It is my go-to morning cleanser. It leaves my face clean without feeling dry or tight. It rinses with no residue. I tried a sample size of Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and it reminded me of how much I love my Cerave. The Cetaphil left my skin feeling squeaky clean and felt like it left a film on my face. Squeaky clean is not what I am looking for in a cleanser. At this point, I feel like Cerave will always be my morning cleanser. It works that much better than anything else I have tried. And it is another great bargain. You can get a 16 oz. bottle for $13.29 at Target. That will last forever because 1 pump is all you need.
The Body Shop British Rose Instant Glow Body Butter – Indulge in dewy hydration with The Body Shop British Rose Instant Glow Body Butter with glow enhancing rose essence. Beautifully pearlescent, this velvety-soft moisturizer is light to the touch but rich on moisture. Non-sticky and perfect for normal to dry skin, formulated with light reflecting pearls to give you an instant all-over healthy looking glow, and subtly scented skin that’s hydrated for up to 24 hours. This body butter was part of my Birthday Haul from Ulta. It is so nice! It melts on contact with my skin and leaves it so very soft and silky. It has a rose scent but it is not as soft as I like a rose scent to be. It is kind of tangy and it does last. I will definitely repurchase The Body Shop body butters. I will be looking for sales during the holidays to stock up.
Many of my favorites this month are related to tretinoin and adjustments to using it. It is worth it but I do need to watch what products I use. I have had to switch to richer and heavier products to prevent dryness.
Have you tried any of my favorites? Do you love them like I do? What were some of your favorites in September? Any skincare recommendations for me?
