The Feel Brilliant Bamboo Charcoal Facial Mask came in the Allure Beauty Box July 2017. I mask 3 times a week and try to use a sheet mask at least once a week. I love getting new masks to try in my subscription boxes. This was my first charcoal sheet mask.
Of all the so-called “detoxifying” ingredients out there, the one we are most excited about is charcoal. It’s “absorbent enough to pull all the gunk you don’t want, like pollution and dirt, out of pores,” says cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson. But (and there’s always a but) here’s the thing: Charcoal needs a little bit of time to do its best work. That’s why sheet masks are an ideal way to get it in contact with your skin. This one is also saturated with hyaluronic acid, so it doesn’t leave your face feeling tight and dry.
When you want to Feel Brilliant, this mask uses detoxifying charcoal to remove impurities and leave your skin feeling fresh and clean. It’s made of bamboo fiber that’s spun into a fabric, making it an incredible replacement for a facial at the spa.
Ingredients
For reference, my skin is normal/combination. I sometimes have shine in my t-zone and can get flaky around my nose, chin, and mouth. I do not have particularly sensitive skin.
After cleansing and toning my face I applied Tretinoin / Retin-A and waited 2 hours. Most people wait 30 minutes after applying tret but I like to give it plenty of time to be absorbed by my skin. I then applied The Ordinary “Buffet” Serum and The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA under the mask. I have a silicone mask cover that I put over the sheet mask. This cover holds it in place and holds it tight against your face. I love this mask cover so much it was one of my 5 Faves October 2016.
I like to apply my serums under sheet masks to press them into my skin along with the mask serum. The directions are to leave this sheet mask on for 30 minutes but I left it on for 45 minutes. The mask was a thick, pulpy feeling material that was saturated in a thicker serum. The serum had a very light, sweet scent. It was faint and did not linger.
The mask was a good size and fit my face fairly well. The eye holes were a good size and lined up well with my eyes. The strip for the upper lip was too thin and the nose cut out was way too wide and short. Who’s nose is that big?? Other than in the nose and mouth area it totally covered the rest of my face with enough to fold under my jawline a bit.
There was no burning or stinging when I put on this mask. There was some serum left when I removed it but it absorbed into my skin as I massaged it in. It felt very hydrating and plumping. It was tacky feeling but felt fine after I applied my moisturizer and my facial oil.
My pores may have looked better. My face did feel hydrated and looked clean. This was a nice sheet mask. I don’t think it did anything amazing but my skin did feel and look better after using it.
A box of 4 sheet masks will cost you $35. I would not spend that for this mask. It is a good mask but I have used many $1 or $2 masks that were as good or better. I was able to try mine as part of a $15 beauty box subscription and it was worth that.
Have you tried this mask? What did you think of it? Do you have a favorite sheet mask?
