Birchbox December 2017

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription that is $10 per month. You receive 4-5 samples or deluxe samples each month. You get makeup, skincare, haircare, bath and body, perfume, or beauty tools. Birchbox has 3 choices each month. You can choose a specially curated box and you know exactly what is in it. The 2nd choice is to choose 1 of your samples from 3-5 choices. The final choice is to let them create the box based on your profile. I have chosen each option at one time or another. This month I went with a box based on my profile. I wasn’t thrilled with the curated box or any of the sample choices.

You can see what I typically get in my boxes here,  herehere,  here and here.   If you would like to try Birchbox you can join here. That is my personal link and I will get points. Birchbox is great some months, good others, and not great at times too. Last month was not all that great so I was hoping for a better month in December. Read on to see if this box delivered.

Davines MINU Illuminating Shampoo – For Color-Treated Hair – We want our hair to be the color we, well, color it—not the faded or washed-out hue it often turns into. This eco-friendly shampoo gently cleanses strands with a blend of mild surfactants while safeguarding color thanks to caper blossom extract. What’s more, it leaves our strands shiny and it has a fresh, citrusy scent that lightly lingers even after we rinse. Hair care products are one of my least favorite products to get in a subscription box. This is a decent sized sample but I am not excited about it.

Davines MINU Illuminating Conditioner – For Color-Treated Hair – We want to protect our color, but avoiding the sun or the shower to prevent fading isn’t practical. Fortunately, this eco-friendly conditioner looks after our strands. Infused with protective caper blossom extract, it smooths away tangles, leaves our hair soft and silky, and helps keep our color true for longer. Another hair product. Yippee. I have used Davines before and it was nothing special.

Davines MINU Hair Serum – For Color-Treated Hair – We love coloring our hair, but (for reasons of time, budget, and hair health) we’d rather take our time between salon appointments. This lightweight leave-in spray helps our color last longer thanks to protective caper blossom extract and gives our ‘do major shine. Its citrusy, fresh scent leaves our hair smelling just as good as it looks. And another hair product. I’m kind of over hair products.

jane iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain  – We’ve got a custom Starbucks order, a custom ringtone, and custom nail art. So it’s no surprise we’re smitten with this lip and cheek stain, which is specially formulated to adjust to your body’s unique chemistry to create a customized, ultra-flattering hue. Plus, it’s enriched with natural, good-for-you ingredients like olive and avocado oils to leave skin supple and soft, as well as moisturizing rose flower wax and beeswax. I forgot that this came in the bix. I haven’t even tried it yet and it may be good. I need to dig it out. I just threw this box to the side because nothing really stood out.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Make-Up Removing Micelle Solution – We’ll be the first to admit we have days we’re just too tired to wash our face at the end of the night. That’s where this easy-to-use, no-rinse facial cleanser and makeup remover steps in to simplify things. It’s specifically designed for sensitive to normal and dry skin types. With cucumber extract and soothing properties for fully nourished, healthy skin, this fragrance-free formula removes even the most stubborn, water-resistant makeup to leave you feeling fresh day and night. This is a cult favorite and I will try it at some point. It is a tiny sample but might be good for overnight travel.

Marcelle Ultimate Volume Nano Mascara – No lash is ever left behind when this mascara takes the lead. That’s because it’s designed to reach every last one while adding volume thanks to its unassuming yet totally effective mini brush. It grasps and coats even your stubborn corner and bottom lashes with a long-lasting formula that doesn’t flake or clump (goodbye spider lashes!). A full-feathered effect with just one product? We’re hooked. I like to try new mascaras but I don’t always like the sample sized ones. They can sometimes be hard to work with.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum – This serum takes its name from the ingredients it’s formulated with—vitamin C, vitamin E, and a blend of antioxidants—but also truly lives up to its C.E.O. title, working like a boss to brighten, tighten, and plump your complexion. With a potent 15% dose of an oil-soluble version of the brightening savior called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (a derivative of vitamin C), it addresses signs of aging and gives you a more even-toned complexion. In this format, it can penetrate deep and fast into your skin, so you get instant radiance. And it doesn’t just make your skin look more refined and clearer thanks to saccharide isomerate extract and glycolic acid, it also reduces any redness or irritation with the help of phytosterols, so even sensitive types can use it. This is the only item in the box that is amazing. I would never pay the price for Sunday Riley products but I like to get to try them.

I also got an eyelash curler. I don’t curl my lashes so I won’t use this.

This month was another disappointing month for me. This box gets a 1.5/5.  I just am not feeling it and really haven’t the past few months. I am considering canceling Birchbox if I don’t get some better boxes in 2018.

Do you get Birchbox? What did you get this month? Were you pleased? Have you tried any of the products in my box? What do you think of them?
