Birchbox January 2018

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription that is $10 per month. You receive 4-5 samples or deluxe samples each month. You get makeup, skincare, haircare, bath and body, perfume, or beauty tools. Birchbox has 3 choices each month. You can choose a specially curated box and you know exactly what is in it. The 2nd choice is to choose 1 of your samples from 3-5 choices. The final choice is to let them create the box based on your profile. I have chosen each option at one time or another. This month I went with a box based on my profile. I wasn’t thrilled with the curated box or any of the sample choices.

You can see what I typically get in my boxes herehere,  here,  here and here   If you would like to try Birchbox you can join here. That is my personal link and I will get points. Birchbox is great some months, good others, and not great at times too. I have not been happy with my boxes for the last few months and am considering canceling. Will my January box be good or bad? Read on to see.

After a whirlwind holiday season, treat yourself to some “me time” with this box of beauty treats.

Air Repair Complexion Boosting Moisturizer – While traveling does wonders for the mind and soul, it’s not so friendly to our complexions. Whether you always find yourself on an airplane or you’re just a victim of stress and dry weather, this intensely rejuvenating face cream was made for you. The antioxidant- and humectant-packed formula hydrates and revitalizes skin, so that even at your most jet-lagged, you can still rock a radiant complexion. This sounds like just what I need in the midst of this brutally cold winter. My skin is dry and patchy.

Stila Cosmetics HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara – For a super bold look that renders faux lashes obsolete, this ink-like mascara is the one to swipe on. Intense color and flexible waxes let you go big in every way—just one coat gives you a major boost in volume, curl, and length. The conditioning, lightweight formula is smudge-proof and clump-proof, resulting in glossy and soft lashes coat after coat. I have more sample sized mascaras than I can ever use. I am not thrilled to get yet another one.

CLEAN Cool Cotton Eau de Parfum – We’re not saying this fresh, mood-boosting fragrance is enough to make us forget about bills, deadlines, and a seemingly never-ending to-do list—but it comes pretty darn close. Cool, crisp and as light as a cotton shirt air-drying in the sun, this airy scent delivers an instant calming effect, filling us with a sense of cheerful optimism. With its refreshing mélange of green apple, lemon zest, mimosa blossom, cooling mint, cotton accord, and peach, it’s about as close to sunshine in a bottle as you can get. This sounds like a really nice scent. Except that I don’t wear perfume. I hate getting perfume in my boxes.

ARROW BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm – Berry Busy – This lip balm features all the same nourishing benefits and transforming powers of the original BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm that you’ve come to know and love, but adds a deeper pop of pink to your pout for even more versatility. The high-tech formula adjusts to your lips’ pH to create a hue that’s unique to you. Ingredients like mango seed butter hydrate and protect, and it has a delicious minty scent. Like all ARROW products, it’s vegan, paraben-free, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. I already have one of these in a different shade and it is ok. I just don’t really use tinted balms so I won’t get a lot of use from this.

DOUCCE Freematic Eyeshadow Single in Veronica – We love a good eye shadow palette as much as the next person, but often we don’t take advantage of all the shades available. These individual colors are part of DOUCCE’s customizable magnetic shadow palette system, where you can choose the exact hues you want to create a variety of looks. They feature highly pigmented formulas with finishes ranging from shimmer to matte and can be used to blend, contour, or highlight. I have a couple of these single eyeshadows and I like them. I just don’t take the time to use my singles very often. It is so much easier to use a palette that has it all there together.

So, Birchbox has disappointed me again. The moisturizer is the only sample I am excited to get. The perfume is a big let down since I won’t use it. I will try the other samples but am not wowed by any of them.

  1. I’m in my 50’s and have received BirchBox from a friend who gifted me a six month subscription. I wish I could cancel without her knowing as it is a miserable disappointment each month. Most items are for the acne prone younger person. This last box had a sparkly “Disco Kitten” tiny lip gloss which was leaking…. it was green. Really? Have yet to receive anything I’ll use and have received boxes for three months so far. I don’t think they pay attention at all to the profile I created. They keep sending me hair product too. I have short natural grey hair. I didn’t want hair product. I reiterated to them I didn’t want hair product. Their answer was basically “too bad”. For the miniscule samples they probably receive free, I have to wonder what they do with their money because they obviously have no one paying attention to each subsciber’s profile.
